I get checked at Kroger occasionally because I tend to grab two items at once, scan one, bag it, then scan the other. It's a habit I haven't been able to break. The worker doesn't even look at the video they just say I'm good to go.
Outside of self-checkout you do realize that you are being videoed pretty much the entire time you are inside a chain grocery store, right?

In your mind, this was a great victory and proves you were right and were carried out in glory on your shoulders after winning the big game. In reality, you were just a new story for the managers, "you'll never believe what this guy did today."
That was hilarious

That’s because they knew you didn’t fit the guilty stereotype. They don’t want to have to confront someone. It’s why the TSA frisks old ladies and middle aged white women and why lazy DOT cops do roadside inspections on new trucks.

I worked in walmart AP in bentonville for several years, they use Ai to predict fake scans, missed scans, etc. It will seem to be random to the customer, but for whatever reason the system will think that a missed scan has taken place, like maybe your hands going out of camera sight for too long/too often.
This happened to me the other day. I was trying to get the assistant to come back and help me because several sale items were not scanning with the proper price.
She ended up taking everything out of my bag and starting over. Weird part was the stuff I scanned in front of her when she was with me the first time did not show up, but everything else did. She didn't make a scene and just scanned it again and sent me on my way. It was maybe $5 worth of stuff.
Here is my thing with these checkouts. I have no doubt I have missed some items. Get home and realize something wasn't in the bag originally or it just doesn't show up on the receipt. If the camera picks that up, just stop me and let me know. I'll pay for the damn thing. If I am in a hurry and all they have are self checkouts I am likely going to make a mistake. I don't wat to be treated like a criminal over something that was not intentional.
