And this is after they bought out Rite Aid. And while it’ll reduce store choice, I’m still glad they’re hurting. I dropped them after they started sending me Black Lives Matters emails. I went to an independent pharmacy after that.

Walgreens robocall bitch calls me for some nonsensical reason every fricking day of the week. I just hang up on it every time now. Very annoying. Additionally, their customer service sucks every time I have a slight problem with a prescription. I usually buy from an independent pharmacy that mails my prescription to me, but occasionally for convenience need something in a hurry local. Whenever I do, Walgreens is definitely a pain in the arse to deal with.

I'm not heartbroken that they are struggling.

My wife sent me to get one of her prescriptions and I walked up to a closed pharmacy with that sign up about the lunch break. LOL No serious place should be doing that.

Most of the chain pharmacies do not have staff overlap. If they do not close, the people working do not get lunch breaks.

The ones that stay open through lunch, have enough workers to cover breaks

I would rather go get drugs off the streets than having to deal with their pharmacy. CVS is right there with them

Their prices are high and checkout is slow when it’s busy.

I’d rather run into a Walmart Neighborhood Market

I don’t think people realize how massive CVS has become behind the scenes

And the only people it’s good for are cvs and the politicians they fund. Every time there is thread on the OT about pharmacies and the crappy service/wait times/etc… at Walgreens and CVS you see a number of people recommend an independent pharmacy and how they love using them. There is no denying the service you get at an independent is in a different league than a chain, Yet independent pharmacies all across the country are having to shut down due to PBMs continuously reimbursing the pharmacy below their cost. It’s insane.

People keep talking about shrinkage and shoplifting as reason for these stores closing. The real thieves are the PBMs, but their stealing is going on unregulated.

This is what it boils down to. The pharmacies are losing money due to poor reimbursements on certain meds. The independents are “out of stock” on those to avoid losing money. Unless there is major overhaul, the pharmacy scene that you see today will no longer exist in a few years. Expect even longer waits as the only entity able to profitably fill your prescription is your insurance company (mail order).

country is going to shite….

Maybe but that’s not the big indicator.

CVS and Walgreens had an “arms race”. Early 2000’s they had a dick measuring contest. If a neighborhood went up anywhere. You were guaranteed a Chilis popping up first. Soon after a Walgreens or a CVS or both.

Then all boner pills went generic and Lipitor went generic. Now it’s only biologics for RA etc that are the money makers. Ozempic and others came along to save the day but it’s too late.

Also the crack down on pain meds gouged them. Pain meds are cheap. But what do pill heads do? But snacks and beer. All these things add up.

And big daddy Amazon stepped into the game.

Ozempic, mounjaro, wegovy, etc… (really any brand name medication) are some of the worst things for pharmacies to stock. Our cost on ozempic is ~$940 and most insurances reimburse us $880-$920. Customers think the pharmacy is making a killing solely based on the fact that their copay is high when in reality the pharmacy is losing money.

Most generics (though I’m talking a dollar or two), cash customers, Medicaid generally, otc stuff, and some insurances are better than others. To make money in pharmacy it used to be about volume. The more Rxs you filled in a day the more money you made. Now the more Rxs you fill in a day is just more opportunity to lose money. It’s not sustainable.

I had to run out yesterday and figured I’d count how many Walgreens I passed.

My drive was about 4 miles to my pharmacy. I passed 4 Walgreens in that span. That’s fricking insane.

everything in those stores is as high as giraffe pussy.

And you have to wait in ridiculous lines because they have one register open.
