Ok I misread. I thought the mistress snapped and murdered the wife, not the wife got sick of her husband's cheating ways.
If that's the case, she just gave the husband a free pass. You kill the mistress and yourself, but not the husband? No divorce or alimony. No real consequences for the husband at all.
