Vehicle registration fees

So when I bought my car I paid a grand and it was registered in Ms. Well long story short I sold my my MS house last month and went to la dmv to register my car in La and now they charge me another grand to register in this state. Da frick is this all about? Do you have to pay an absurd car reg fee everytime you move to a different state?

Yes. You are registering the car with the new state. They don't give a shite what you paid MS....you aren't driving on MS roads anymore

You're not supposed to tell the dmv the actual price you paid. $200 is standard price I pay for any car.

In LA it's based on the car's value, not what you paid for it.

They can do that, but rarely do. I've only had to justify the price I actually paid one time. One I put the real amount on a motorcycle I bought and the guy at the dmv looked at me like I was an idiot. He kept asking me if I was sure I paid that much for it... Hint hint then finally said OK I hope it's worth it.

The laws have changed. There is a set amount for each vehicle. They finally got smart.

Didn't realize that, it must have been pretty recent. Or either the year makes a difference. I'll find out today or tomorrow when I transfer a title.

I paid on the current market value she told me my vehicle is worth 19,000 or so it ended up being like $1005 dollars. Should have told them the vehicle had 250k miles on it lol.

I drove for 2 years without registering until a cop gave me a warning.
At least that lowered the tax with 2 more years depreciation

My registration for Ms doesn't expire until next year. I prob could have gotten away with just not registering it in La and selling it at the end of the year when my father in law gives me his Silverado.

I lived on the Jordan river I loved my house had to sell it because my wife is pregnant and can def do better with 1500 a month in my pocket instead of an extra mortgage. I already lived here.

Varies from state to state. LA, yes, they get theirs no matter. If I moved back right now, I would have to pay this for my car I have only every registered in TN.
When I moved from LA to TN, only had to pay like $38 to get registration transfer.
Thank you TN. And no regular state income tax either :-)
