The Tiger and Panther get all the glory for the German armored forces but the StuG III was the actual backbone of their blitzkrieg.

The StuG III, which is based on the Pzkpfw. III is widely regarded as having the largest kill tally of any armored vehicle on either side during WWII.

I built this StuG about a year ago…

Looking at my stash, I have three more StuG kits. So I’ll probably be building another one soon.

when the F-15 came out, it no doubt was an incredible machine but the first guys to get their hands on it and go up against it had been trained in F-4s and used F-4 tactics, the old F-4 dudes ate their lunch and it was quickly decided to develop a new training curriculum, they did and the rest is history, never been an Eagle shot down air-to-air, and the kill markings didn't make it more than a day or two before they were ordered removed

That’s freaking hilarious.

Yeah, but they had a habit of taking it too far.
One could make the argument that they still do.

Love this one.

Nicely done. Do you ever do helicopter models?

I tried to talk him into doing a CH-53E Super Stallion in my old squadron's markings but he balked.

Oh yeah. I’d forgot about that. I think I could not find the squadron markings if I remember. What squadron was it again? I’ll look again and see if I can find anything.

I’ll see what I can find.

Eta: I do see Academy offers a 1:48 scale kit. But it down include decal for your squadron. I’ll ask around in some of my model groups to see if anyone knows where I could find some. If I can, I'll be glad to build you one. Though I have no idea how I’d get it to you. The main thing I’d worry about in shipping it would be the rotor blades getting snapped off.

It’s interesting that the Germans started the war with lightly armed and armored tanks (PzII, III & 38t) and ended the war obsessed with the super tanks with huge guns (King Tiger, JagdTiger).

At the start of the war, from a technical standpoint the Germans were behind both the French and Soviets. Where they were ahead though was in tactics. That’s why the Germans were successful against both the French and Russians even though both possessed superior tanks. But it was their encounter with these superior Allied tanks in the early part of the war that lead the Germans to develop heavier tanks with bigger guns a more armor.

The Panther is a prime example of this. When Germany invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, this was their first encounter with the T-34 medium tank and it came as a complete shock. It’s sloped armor and 76mm gun and wide tracks Meade it far superior to anything the Germans had. In fact, the Germans briefly considered straight up copying the T-34. In the end though thy developed their own T-34 inspired tank, we know it as the Pzkpfw V “Panther”

The other huge advantage the Germans had in the early war was radios. Russian and French tanks only had radios in command tanks. Germany had radio sets in almost every AFV. Huge advantage in tactical flexibility and rapid response.

Yep. Radios were a huge advantage. Also, especially on French tanks the tank commander also had to double as the gunner, and sometimes also as the loader as well. And the lack of radios meant they also had to try and communicate with the other tanks in their unit via signal flags. It was an impossible task and one of the main reasons why French armored forces did so poorly during the Battle of France.

Thanks! That looks like a DAK Pz. III. I built one of those a couple years ago.
