Almost had a really bad one last summer by being ignorant of the fact that Pensacoula has a big gay pride deal over Memorial day weekend.
We spent a lot of money to rent a condo at Portofino Resort and this was apparently the main hangout for the gay guys with money.
Luckily we checked in on Monday at that was the last day of the party, but it was not a pretty scene at all at the pool that day. Had to turn the kids around and kept them at the beach that day.

If we would have checked in on that Friday and had a whole weekend of that I'm not sure what I would have ended up doing.

Western Mexico cruise. I love cruises, but that one sucked. It was July but it was too cold most of the time, and the cities we stopped in sucked in general

St. Maarten.

One of my most favorite places ever. Two different nationalities, beautiful beaches (clothes or not). Our rented estate was beautiful, private beach, private pool, overlooking the ocean. Damn, I'm sad now.

Although a lot of people love the resorts along 30A, I found Rosemary Beach expensive for what you get, a little too far of a drive, and a bit crowded.

Look on vrbo and contact the renters, especially if it's close to the day you are going, many are willing to deal.

I love destin, but we went a couple years ago for 5 days around the 4th and it rained all day, every day we were there. We did get out and do some indoor activities, but it ended up being a miserable experience for all involved.

What did you dislike about St. Maarten and what did you like so much about the other two?

St. Maarten is very dirty. People use their yards for trash. All the people. The French side is somewhat better. If you go the east side of the island is the place to stay. Somewhere north of the area around Oyster Pond which was quite nice. The traffic on St. Maarten/Martin is horrendous. I don't vacation to take an hour to drive 10-20 miles.

St. Barths is very upscale. It's a place where rich and beautiful people go to vacation. Anguilla is just a damned nice island with nice people and great beaches. We've found this to be true of all of the British islands we've visited. Tortola was probably the worst of the British islands but it's a great jumping off point to a host of other islands within a short boat ride.
