I always swore that if I won the lottery, I would set up a business to compete with Ticketmaster. My goal would be to put them out of business. With enough money, I don’t think it would be that hard. Their fees are absolutely f*cking insane. Someone could set up a business to do it for 10 to 20% of what they charge. I can’t understand why no one ever has. There has to be some shady, back door dealings going on.
Ticketmaster is owned by LiveNation who owns the tours and negotiates all of the venues. If you own the tour and the means of getting tickets, you can charge whatever you want. States want the outrageous ticket prices because they get the sales tax revenue.

I believe it's now a contractual requirement for any act performing at a live nation venue to use ticket master....and every major venue is owned/managed by live nation.

Pearl jam tried to tell these guys decades ago. I'm guessing a senator or someone tried to get a ticket for their daughter and saw it was 25k+ "let's open up a probe". They wouldn't do it unless it was affecting them.

Easiest solution is to make "verified fan" tickets non-transferable, so much so it's idiotic it isn't mandated by the artists.
It'd nip the Ticketmaster bots in the butt too when artists question why their best tickets end up for resell profit and not in the hands of their actual fans

It’s not just that Pearl Jam took one for the team to try to get around them, they were actually working with the scalpers, they took a plea deal or something, they are worse than the mob, they don’t hurt innocent women and kids
