Last time I saw a Totco system was 2011. I hate to hear that it's still a piece of crap. You would think they could put out a better product. They've been around longer than all of them. I've been on some old kelly rigs not too terribly long ago that still had the old system with 2 knobs.

Refineries are set up to run just about any crude, the light and heavy are run thought out. The only segregation is lube approved and non lube approved (fuels grade). One of the more thicker is from Chad, called Doba, it to makes great products, mogas, diesel, jet, etc.
FYI, Jet-A is just Kerosene with a deicer. Heating oil and diesel are close in cetane numbers.

I meant more complicated than a surface-level media understanding.
