Officer Shay Mikalonis was moved from UMC to a long term rehab facility today. Family members say that he's paralyzed from the neck down and can't speak. However, he seems to be fully aware and able to recognize family and surroundings.

I cannot imagine the challenges they now face & pray for God to grant them strength as they move forward

There are several programs that kick in if the officer is killed in the line of duty that will allow his family to be financially secure. However, in situations like this one where the officer will need medical assistance for the remainder of his life there is very little in place. The family can expect worker's comp to attempt to deny care at many levels just as soon as the media attention of the case fades. Absolutely terrible.

that side of the strip is terrible. the Las Vegas police do everything they can to protect the tourist side of that area, but it's not surprising that this happened on that end.

but hey ... "defund" them and whatever other trendy SJW, nonsensical garbage right?

Yeah, they're kinda caught in the middle between the lower (much more high profile) end of The Strip and the Downtown / Fremont Street area.
