They also don't need a warrant to search your vehicle.

This is completely off topic and I don't want to derail this but this depends on the circumstances. They have to follow the same rules 90% of the time but there are circumstances where they aren't required to get one.

I read an article on face book and the shooter was said to be a male and a convicted felon.

Update:

Got to visit with Tyler for about an hour. He was under heavy sedation. All Doctors are saying how good he is doing with all that has happened. Got to meet with Dr. Nanda. He was very positive and excited how good he is doing. He feels he will be fine. Track of the bullet actually didn't do as much damage as first thought from the angle and track. They are still determining about a lung they may have been hit by the bullet or trauma from the bullet. It is partially deflated. They were going to inflate it with a tube. He will have surgery on his jaw tomorrow. It was broken where one bullet entered. It is now a waiting game for swelling. Thanks for all the prayers. They are working. Thanks to the response from The LDWF from the top down and all surrounding LEO's. They have been very supportive. Governor Edwards has reached out and called Haley. It is a wait and see game now, but all is positive so far because Tyler is a fighter.

They have the exact same authority as a state trooper.

Unfortunately, like a State Trooper, they also generally ride solo, which puts them at considerable risk anytime they make a stop. Backup is not always immediate.

Glad to hear this. I work with a lot of LEO's in my work, but never with LDWF. I wish him well.

Even though the shooter is 16, she needs to be dealt with.

No- there was a male taken in for questioning along with the female, but the female did the shooting.. not sure if she is a convicted felon, but do know she has a criminal record and had outstanding warrants.

ANd here she is folks.

quote:

A Monroe, LA woman has been charged with the attempted murder on Saturday morning of a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agent. Senior Agent Tyler Wheeler, 25, also of Monroe, was struck five times by gunfire while performing a traffic stop about 2:06 a.m. in Morehouse Parish. The incident took place in the southbound lane of U.S. 165 in between Sterlington and Bastrop in the Perryville area. Louisiana State Police detectives began investigating the shooting and evidence was quickly discovered that lead to the arrest of Amethyst Baird, 31. She was charged and booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on one count of attempted 1st degree murder of a police officer for the shooting.
