It is a section of Yellowstone on the Idaho side. Nicknamed the Zone of Death by the MSU law professor that "discovered" the 6th amendment issues in the area. It has only been used once as a defence (IIRC it was poaching) once and the argument was thrown out by the trial judge but the defendant took a plea so it was never appealed.

The police are there by family request? This is looking like he may actually be innocent. Maybe they are ready to come forward with what they know. Maybe feeling like they can prove his innocence and help find her body at the same time?
