Have the divers been able to search the entire vessel?Last I heard there was one area they could not get into.

I want to say I read/heard DonJoy?? Thatncould have been someone supposing though. And yes I read that they’re trying to remove the fuel. That’s got to take a while.

Donjon is the company performing the diving operations at this time.
Salvage contract hasn’t been awarded yet. It could end up being Donjon but they haven’t awarded it yet.

The one thing I could have lived my life without reading is the the guy named Jay was seen alive and went back to the vessel. I still don’t understand how you drop vests/radios in crazy winds/waves to people but can’t rescue them.
One of the missing guys is from where I live — they had a crawfish boil fundraiser Friday and had a fantastic turnout. Poor fella had no wife/kids but lots of nieces and nephews.

The general consensus around the industry is that someone dropped the ball on the rescue. Lots of finger pointing going on. I won’t get into details but it will eventually all come out after the investigation is complete. I’ll just say this, the CG could and should have done more
Posted on 5/2/21 at 10:22 am to tgrbaitn08
Well I’m just a citizen who certainly feels like more could have been done. Idk if it was accurate about the CG boat that was out there not being commissioned but I mean if you can you help, right??
And did either of the companies (Seacor and Talos) help much? Whose responsibility should it have been?
And again, I hate to see the captain who is dead blamed and can’t defend himself obviously. I’m guessing the survivors will be a source of info??
And my heart breaks for Scott Daspit — and all families — but that man will die looking for his son before he gives up. And the fundraising is now a shite show. Who knows what’s fact and fiction? All I’ve donated were beverages at our local store who had a collection area for those searching vermilion bay.

From what I have heard, Seacor was very helpful early on. Not sure about lately.
Talos had just rented the boat, so they are gonna try and distance themselves from everything. They didn’t have any personnel on board.

Yeah Dylan Daspits dad Mr. Scott said in an interview early on that Seacor was helping I think by donating fuel/money for fuel.
How many companies had guys out there?
And regarding the salvaging of something like this, does it take weeks, months, years?? Totally just curious.

If this was the 70’s that barge would have been pulled up in a week if not sooner. Less regulations and more real men. Back then you could get shite done.
If you can’t get it,you can’t stay. Was our saying.

What else do you expect them to do? They hired the dive and rescue team to search for the missing guys. Not sure what else they are supposed to do. They arent a salvage or dive company.

I didn't expect any more or any less ... someone asked what they had done and I replied with what the Daspit father said. Nothing more, nothing less.

Can you say "Lawyers"

Sure
But back then the shallow water GOM had a hell of lot more activity than now. Many more lifting assets that could have and would have been mobilized immediately. McDermott,Heerema,Brown and Root and others had Derrick barges and ships all over the GOM.
Without a doubt those guys would have mobilized to the site and started hooking up.
IF the weather would have cooperated, which it doesn’t more than it does,in the winter and spring.

I think Seacor had their own cooks, so I believe the only companies on the boat were Cardinal and Seacor.

It's boxed in with some pipelines right now. They should pump it with air and displace the water sometime this week as I am told

If they can refloat the hull, they should be able to bring it largely intact back to shore relatively quickly.
Watching some of the news, particularly the Ledet lawsuit with allegations about pressure to sail, I am curious to see what messages are recovered between the captain and others shoreside (his wife, vessel Manager, company man) about sailing conditions.

If this wasn’t such a tragedy, the infighting between the UNC and the other group would be comical.

I heard last week from some insurance industry folks it was DonJon who were going to perform the salvage. If they are getting rid of carbons then it may a different appointee from a pollution entity.

Just let it drip one drop and the national media will be camped out in Fourchon.
