I think that the content that Chris Hansen and his many YouTube imitators generate has the unintended consequence of planting seeds in people's minds. I used to think these particular crimes were rare. It doesn't feel that way anymore.

Of course, the rise in internet availability that has no doubt contributed, too, began roughly around the time Hansen started his shtick. It's difficult to separate one effect from the other.

I guess wanting to look at naked kids is so weird to me that I think very few people would have that desire unless 1) they'd already been all the way to the end of PornHub and needed a new drug; and/or 2) something is out there letting them know, "hey, this is a thing people get off on."
