You mean the civil rights act of 1964? You think we would be a better society if we still had colored water fountains?
And yes. I do prefer today's women. I had a great time in college and am very very happily married.

No, I think the transition wasn't played out correctly.
It's like giving NFL/NBA players millions, and then watching them go bankrupt 5 years after they leave the NBA.
It's the embracement of responsibility versus the exercising of freedom.
Burn the bra, frick anyone who gets you wet.....isn't the whole measure.
before you ask, I would support conscription between the ages of 16-18, as form of uniform adulthood training. Intermixing cultures(forced integration) with a common "LOGICAL" message.

Basically, before we say you're an adult and release you to the world, we will have a crash course in adulthood.
You could have been raised by two honest, "Christian" parents, but not everyone in society got that. So a military education form of conscription that tears down kids and puts them on a straight, productive path to either stay military, go to trade school(that they showed promise in 16-18), or off to college.
So much juvenile crime happens between 16-18(the influences of spill over to the 13-15 year olds)...removing that source of shite an mixing it with the rest of society under direct control can help to remove the future SOURCE of shite.
It teaches kids respect for others and themselves.

quote:
It may end by seeming shameful to all of us that some of us have nothing but campaigning, and others nothing but unmanly ease. If now — and this is my idea — there were, instead of military conscription, a conscription of the whole youthful population to form for a certain number of years a part of the army enlisted against Nature, the injustice would tend to be evened out, and numerous other goods to the commonwealth would remain blind as the luxurious classes now are blind, to man's relations to the globe he lives on, and to the permanently sour and hard foundations of his higher life. To coal and iron mines, to freight trains, to fishing fleets in December, to dishwashing, clotheswashing, and windowwashing, to road-building and tunnel-making, to foundries and stoke-holes, and to the frames of skyscrapers, would our gilded youths be drafted off, according to their choice, to get the childishness knocked out of them, and to come back into society with healthier sympathies and soberer ideas.

This might not be popular. But the military isn't for everyone. Also, it's not the end all solution to everything and it doesn't guarantee success after those people leave the service. There seem to be a lot of issues with veterans transitioning into civilian life, not to speak of the mental issues many seem to have after exposure to combat. Honestly, I think we would have a better military if we expanded the age limits and allowed middle aged people to retired aged people join. Throwing rebellious teenagers into boot camps against their wills just doesn't make much sense and won't solve anything..
