The guy has a pretty good lay of the land and understanding of the transport system. I would imagine he is originally from, went to school there or lived there at some point. Even the most dedicated tourist would have to be really on their shite to plot this escape route.

Also the insurance lobby in DC is right next to cable companies and used car salesman in terms of stellar ethics and will move heaven and earth not to add competition to the market, making self insuring near impossible long term.

He got to NYC 24 Nov. Plenty of time to get his bearings. I've been in many international cities and can get between points and nav to and from transit hubs day 1 without speaking the language. This didn't take local knowledge to get around town.
