On one front, the terms "illegal immigrant" and "illegal aliens" have been a part of our vernacular as describing what they are for a long time...people who entered the country illegally, circumventing the normal processes that sovereign countries around the world have generally used with border control for several centuries. Saying they are undocumented obfuscates the concept, and avoids the direct association with illegality.

It's done intentionally by the media, politicians, etc.

Maybe it is done intentionally. shite, it probably is. But if you're too dumb to draw the logical connection from undocumented -> illegal, it's your own fault. Just a bunch of faux outrage that is completely tangential to the actual issue at hand. It's abundantly clear what "undocumented" means in this instance. "Illegal" can mean so, so many things, so your whole argument of it being more descriptive is far from the truth.
quote:

The other day, I was undocumented because I forgot my drivers license at home.

You're documented, you just lacked proof of said documentation on your person.

I understand you think you have me summed up, but I'm not a Trump voter or anything. Just not a cliché, aggressively average OT poster who makes himself feel better by building up a TD redneck strawman.

Which of us is building strawmen here? I'm gonna go ahead and say it definitely isn't me.

Because it's to take away from their culpability. Like it's totally not their fault that they broke our laws.

People who use that term don't think there is anything wrong with what they are doing. They don't care. But illegal immigrants are literally fugitives hiding from authorities, draining resources, not paying taxes, committing higher rates of crime, causing lots of problems for our country. They aren't just some poor souls who are victims of our incredibly generous immigration system. I'm not saying they are bad people and I don't have any issues with them culturally, but you're just being obtuse if you don't concede that the national conversation is being manipulated by idiocy like this. We need to call it for what it is.

Just a quick heads up
quote:

Debaters invoke a straw man when they put forth an argument—usually something extreme or easy to argueagainst—that they know their opponent doesn't support. You put forth a straw man because you know it will be easy for you to knock down or discredit. It's a way of misrepresenting your opponent's position.

Red herring alert. Non sequitur with a hint of appeal to authority

The idea is that there is a laundry list of posters on here that do the lazy driveby "YA BAW GIT ER DONE BAW" because there is an easy strawman that anyone who is a conservative or disagrees with liberal things is a redneck.

I don't have a problem with the existence of illegals. I just don't think they should have entitlements without paying taxes. I agree they are often a drain on the economy, but let's not act like they aren't also important to our economy. The blame with the wastefulness lies with our system, not the people that come here and don't follow proper procedures.

But again, let's face it. If you read "undocumented immigrant" and don't automatically understand that it means the same as the classic "illegal immigrant" definition, then your opinion shouldn't count.

You keep saying that, and yeah it sounds great but I just showed you what Google defined it as. It's a quick read, check it out.

You just proposed to know how people felt about immigrants based on their verbiage. And those feelings were conveniently easy to discredit, that's the definition of what you're accusing him of.

I won't even get into a lot of your facts being just false, because honestly I don't care about this issue. But if you're gonna get all high and mighty about debate and dirty tactics, use the words correctly.

Write if off how you want. You're the one who was using a strawman argument.

Melt, CUCK!

If it was the first time I saw a poster on here doing that, maybe I was making it up. But I've seen him do that thing on here a couple of times, along with several others. Where you say "[insert conservative position here] YEAH BAW HELLFIRE. 'MERICA!"

Not sure what angle you are going for on this one, but if you think the term isn't deeply politically controversial, not sure what to tell you baw.

Gonna chalk this one up to my ignorance of the poli board. I just thought it was an interesting back and forth between you two until I saw you throwing around the S word. You're a smart guy Lou, you had a good point til you tried to discredit the arguer instead the argument.

I'll go back to reading and not commenting.

It's actually illegal alien, but whatever. I don't really care I just think it's funny how coddled society is.

It's hard to be subject to the laws of your adopted country when they haven't adopted you bc you are undocumented, which is illegal

Lol I was just about to say that, that shirt looks like what Academy workers wear, perhaps a look into their hiring practices.

Your reply is intellectually dishonest, but I think you did get the drivers license part right.

If prostituition were above board human trafficking wouldn't be an issue here.

I fail to see why it's illegal other than Bible thumpers feeling the need to tell everyone else what they can/can't do.
