My uncle's sold used cars on the side of their main business. A dealer basically threw in a Hyundai Excel they got for a trade if they agreed to buy another vehicle that was also taken in on a trade. It was a pos, but it ran. They agreed.
The Excel had a parasitic electrical draw that would drain the battery overnight. They asked if I would take a look at it and see if I could find out what it was. I went all over that car with a meter and even pulled every fuse in the fuse lock along with disconnecting the alternator. It would still drain the battery overnight. I swore it was the battery itself but three was put in it from other vehicles that didn't have the same problem and it did the same thing on the Hyundai. I couldn't find anything on the vehicle that was wired in or swapped out from the former owner.
I reassembled it, hooked everything back up, put all the fuses back in, and recommended to them to scrap it.

A pretty hilarious statement but unfortunately incredibly true.
Detroit was content on passing off garbage to the American consumer. The engineering was poor and they were apparently fine with that because they have a bit of a monopoy. Say what you want about increasing government regulations, but they forced the car companies to get better.
The engineering on modern automobiles is nothing short of incredible. With a little bit of maintenance and care, it's possible to keep most cars on the road for 300k miles easily. I have a 4Runner with 200k that still looks reasonably new. Imagine a car from the 80's with 200k on it...

I thought the Honda CRZ might bring back some nostalgia of the CRX & do well. I was wrong.

Can't belive we've got to page two without the 1978 car of the year, Dodge Omni. I had a friend who had one of these in high school in the early 90's. It was an epic piece of crap.
