Whoever fires the first shots will be portrayed as the villains. I think they are right not to shoot first and risk losing the support of other nations.

no, they're not pussies.. they're doing something that'll never happen in america cause.. you guessed it.. too many of our citizens are pussified. They'll use their guns if they have to, but they're doing it the smart way by making the police fire first

demonstrators are showing incredible discipline, the longer this thing goes, the stronger they'll get...

If the protesters fire first, it gives the gov't the excuse to roll in the tanks.

The gov't may be afraid of world public opinion if they do. It'll just confirm that the Ukraine has returned to Soviet-era policies, etc. which is the very thing the people are fearing/protesting. I'm guessing they'd rather have some better pretext to do so.

They are catching hell for trying to outlaw protest, could you imagine if they rolled the tanks in because of fireworks and burning tires.

Actually the Olympics itself will be interesting, especially if Russia and Ukraine get matched up in a hockey game.

I think Russia is going to be a major pain in the arse after the Olympics.

Exactly. I've always maintained that the end of the cold war and break up of the Soviet bloc ruined the Olympics. This may be a step in the right direction....sort of

Back to the tanks...I wonder how many Ukrainians, even though they're Uke tanks, will see them as Russian surrogates. I think it was the 56 Olympics right after the Soviets rolled tanks into Hungary that the CCCP played Hungary in water polo. There was literally blood in the water.

at some point, would the EU step in and help Ukraine form a new Government?

I think if the protesters win against the government then that is just the start. After that they will fight amongst the 3 protesting factions. This could last for a very long time.

good points, but let me take a somewhat contrarian view...
how reliable do you think the Army would be in that situation?
I'm thinking that whoever is in control of the Army wonders if parts of the Army would be on the side of the protesters...

somewhat... if the protesters win, they will have elections immediately, that'll decide who is in charge.. which is all they want
