Ok so I stopped by and it's less of a demonstration as it is a candlelight vigil and I felt really awkward and disingenuous as the only non-Ukrainian so I bugged out.

They've built what looks like a giant wig-wam near their camp.

edit...switched away from it to now showing the stage cam where a movie is being played showing the historical atrocities.

Quick question. Why can't, or why doesnt, the government simply surround the protested area and not allow any one else in (only out). This would cut off supplies. Is it because this would be bad PR? Is it because it is contained now and the protests would simply move to a different location? Or is it becuase this would require guns to do so?

Using a mass strong-arm solution would certainly escalate the conflict.

Yakuv thought that the protest would remain contained around Kiev...it didn't. Other parts of the country (in the West) joined in too. People are coming in from towns in the countryside, such as Lvev.

Donetsk is in East Ukraine. So, this might turn into a battle because police broke down a barricade in East Ukraine?

OK so I was sheepishly taking these from the back of the group before I left...I also have a pretty beautiful video clip of them singing the national anthem, but I can't get it off my phone for some reason.

Good work going to the demonstration, Mac. I have only been to DC once, isn't M Street near the foreign embassies? Do you know what buildings they were in front of?

This thread needs an anchor until we get some action, it has been a waste of time for days now.

M street is the main shopping drag in Georgetown. They were in a park across the street from the Ukrainian Embassy, which was to their right and out of the pictures.

Most of the embassies are on Massachusetts Avenue, on the so-called "Embassy Row."
