You people are still drinking the state department kool aid

Hell Yeah! Putin wishes so bad he never tried to bully and started this war by invading a sovereign country.
It’s not 1973 anymore, Putin!

The Ukrainians are saying they purposely left the US in the dark over this. Given that some members of the administration have close ties to Russia... I'd have kept it secret as well.
The operational security for this strike (a year and a half in the planning) is frankly amazing.

Which ones?
It’s a BS reason, but I am sure you are full TDS about it and still believe in the Russian collusion fiction. It is also a stupid decision when still trying to keep any amount of the US money train flowing in any capacity. Considering the US is a part of protecting the Ukraine in case of a nuclear attack (when Ukraine gave up its nukes) this would be even more ignorant.
Russia wasn’t going to nuke the Ukraine at least before this, and it has also endangered members of NATO of which the US has been the prime supporter. 2/3 ability to nuke the planet is still a big problem. The 1/3 reduction with strike capabilities is also temporary as well. All or nothing in this regard with Ukraine’s actions on nukes.
The smart decision and more likely of what really happened would be for them to just say this to give the US and others plausible deniability while actually informing them secretly, but the Ukraine can be as full of crap as Russia can be making not telling the US at least a little possible from the Ukraine’s side.
It would be one more reason why I support not being involved in this anymore or only at a greatly reduced level involvement and money spent. Both sides are not trustworthy. Let them fight and weaken each other, but do it without our money and weapons. Hunter’s laptop and dealings with the Ukraine can no longer be held over our leader.

So, what is left for them to do to have some sort of bargaining chips at the negotiating table? Well, the ability to hurt Russia in its own territory. That’s really it. So, I think what we’re seeing with the strike on the bomber bases and the train attack, is Ukraine looking for some sort of leverage at the peace talks that will start at some point in the coming weeks.
You are downplaying the success Ukraine has had on Russian targets inside Russia. Many weapon depots have been destroyed. Many Oil refinery's and related storage infrastructure has been blown up. Many military command post have been obliterated. Many weapons factories have been targeted. Russia cant even sail their prized black sea fleet with out the real possibility of ships being sunk. And now their strategic bombers have been targeted all the way in Siberia.
You act like Ukraine is looking for a small win to help negotiations. If you have been paying attention Russia is hurting deeply from the damage Ukraine is doing via drone. Russia war machine has been teetering with staggering loses and now the limits have been removed on what Ukraine can blowup.
Putin better be finding his way to the peace table soon.
