As far as pageantry and production yes.

Pride was known to fix fights even when I thought that pride had the better fighters of the two organizations at the time. But there was also no drug testing or "drug testing"

Then some of those studs from pride didn't do all too well in the cage for different reasons

Now it's scripted and worse than boxing.

No possible way it's scripted when McGregor loses. If scripted, he would win every fight by KO. He is a walking ATM for the UFC.

UFC peaked around 2007 for me. I've lost interest ever since.

I won't ever lose interest in a good fight.

If you remember when UFC first started, it was 400+lb. sumo wrestlers vs. black belts. It was the true ultimate fighting championship and was awesom

From a book called "No Holds Barred" by Clyde Gentry, that details the origins of the UFC, and the early years of the promotion. This story is from UFC 1:
quote:

The first match of the evening pitted Tuli against Gordeau, the most extreme clash of styles the event had to offer. Tuli made his way to the octagon dressed in a flowery Samoan garb. Gordeau then entered and made an astonishing gesture: he turned to all four corners of the ring, and, with the TV cameras on him, gave what appeared to be a series of Nazi salutes. Gordeau, smothered in tattoos and sporting a bald, pale head, looked like an Aryan nation poster boy. Yet, he was actually giving the salutation for his martial art of Savate.

Tuli barreled towards his lofty matador and absorbed to several punches to the head. Moving out of the way, Tuli then flopped to the ground, and before he could rise Gordeau planted a well executed roundhouse kick to his face, launching a tooth into the crowd. The Dutchman followed up with a looping right hand that connected hard and the refs stop the action even as the bloody, confused Tuli motioned for the match to continue. A doctor called the fight off, Tuli left with blood and tears in his eyes, and the crowd had witnessed a Streetfighter 2 game gone awry. It was all over and just 26 seconds.

quote:

What happened to backstage was hard to believe. Doctors were trying to remove two of Tuli's teeth that were embedded in Gordeau's foot. They decided it would be better to leave the teeth and for the rest of the night for fear of exposing the one getting more. On top of that, Gordeau's hand was broken in several places. Yet the Savat champion, cigarette dangling from his mouth, showed no signs of quitting and had blocked the pain out of his mind.

quote:

For his part, Gordeau would need lengthy treatment in Holland for the injury he suffered kicking out Tuli's teeth. "I had to spend nine weeks in bed, and they had a drain stuck in my foot to clean it with water every hour to prevent infection for fear of blood poisoning."

The problem with the UFC 200 card is when they took a hard stand against McGregor and the McGregor/Diaz fight was off, and then when Jones pissed hot and the back up Main Event was off all they had left were leg humper wrestlers.

Which I am a huge fan of wrestling and that's the discipline I identify with the most, take down, hold and GnP doesn't provide for the most exciting fight when both fighters aren't polished BJJ players.

Tate/Nunes in the Main Event is almost a throwaway. DC's pathway to victory against Anderson Silva was to get him down and impose his size advantage. Lesnar's only path to victory against Hunt was to take him down and punish him.

Aldo/Edgar was a bit of a letdown despite Aldo looking really good. Neither of those guys are known to be dynamic finishers.

Velazquez/Browne was one where we saw the Cain we were hoping was still there.

Lauzon/Sanchez was probably the best fight on the card and they used that to push fightpass.

With the hype the card had for all the build up and promise of it being the biggest ever, there was no way it could have lived up to that expectation. They put names on the card over exciting fight styles.

I think he beats him this time. If you watch the first round, McGregor is clearly the more talented. I do think he is stupid for wanting at 170 again. 155 would've suited him much better.

The Diaz brothers are both mediocre talents at best, but they are very tough dudes.
