I signed up to be an uber driver. Yes they take your social. No they did not charge me for a background check. That sounds like a scam. The uber app for drivers has GPS so it is literally worm proof. Either the guy that got robbed is lying using that as an excuse for going to Algiers for drugs or arse, (which he can get anywhere in NOLA, who knows what he was there for).

In Texas you have to pay a fee to the state. I forget what the exact thing is called but a friend of mine got booted from Uber for not doing..
