Civil work of a kind is the worst work out there, run from that.

Roughly $400K for a Tulane EE degree, damn. Even if a student comes from a family earning less than $47K/yr it drops the yearly tuition down to $35-$47K/yr based on financial need.

My LSU EE degree has done me just fine with the G.I. Bill and it cost me zero dollars, and my company paid for the majority of my Masters degree.

I’m surprised they didn’t have these already.

There were a lot of pissed off people in this city when those were dropped. Lots of great engineers in this city with a Tulane engineering degree

What was the reasoning for dropping the ME and EE degree programs? It couldn't have been a cost saving as neither program requires any lab investment or larger than normal staff. Certainly not staff for freshman remedial courses as engineering is not a discipline attractive to poorly-prepared students.

On the other hand, think about the reduction in staff that the math, physics and computer sciences departments witnessed after engineering was dropped. Or did Cowan see this as a feature, not a bug?

Finally, what happened to Filo's $30 million? If he donated it specifically to the School of Engineering, which he did, and this was done one year before Cowan effectively closed the School, where did the money go?

Honestly, this episode of self-destructive stupidity is so typical for Tulane. Add it to the withdrawal from the SEC because they didn't want to share bowl/TV revenue (how much has Vandy made since 1966?), tearing down Tulane Stadium before signing a contract with the Super Dome Commission and thereby getting hosed for decades, and (my personal favorite) repeatedly refusing to publish a Tulane grad's novel, "A Confederacy of Dunces". Which, when it was finally sent to LSU's Publishing House, was read, recognized, published and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. I guess the Tulane Publishing office was too busy researching the proper mixture of ingredients for gin and tonics. Idiots in tweed.
