I vote no liner. Mats work well, and you can remove them if you need to shovel a load of sand or mulch out you can.

I have a Line-x spray in liner on my truck, best money I have ever spent on a vehicle.

I have a spray in and a mat. Stuff still slides on the spray in but not on the mat. U can get a mat for about $75 the spray in is 400 to 500 depending on the brand and if you go over the rail or under the rail

And how exactly does a line affect this? With a liner I don;'t have to move anything, then just hose it out after.
I tried the mat, and it was a waste of money.

I understand that they are extremely popular but I have trouble grasping their value. What are they good for essentially? They don't really seem to keep things from moving around much.

Check in with the ole boy on DeSiard a little east from Kansas Lane for a spray-in. He did one for me several years ago and his work was top notch. You'll have to listen to him tell you how good he is - 
gets tedious - but he did much better than the last one I bought.

Color match Line-X. About $700. Then throw a rubber mat on top of that in the bottom of the bed.

I did a color match line-X in Huntsville at their Corp HQ for $700 two years ago. Looks freaking fantastic. Rubber mat on top that the dealer threw in for free to keep stuff from sliding. Perfect.

I had a Silverado with a spray-in liner. Lasted 10+ years and never had any trouble. I recommend it highly especially after seeing what those terrible drop-in liners did to a friend of mine's truck.
edit: My truck came with the spray-in. They offered to do the inner rear wheel wells as well, which makes some sense I guess if you drive a lot in snowy climates.

Just got quoted line-x for a short bed F150 at $450 basic or $550 premium with added uv protection. I'm told the premium will be a near perfect match with the tuxedo black so I think I'll spend the extra hundred.

The drop-ins move around in the wind and shred the paint in the bed....moisture and debris still get caught underneath them. Over time, you get rust.
Definitely go with the spray-in liner even if it's an off-brand.
