Truck A/C question: slight humming noise

In the last two days, out of nowhere, my A/C has started giving off a slight humming noise when turned on. The higher I turn the A/C, the louder the hum. I'm still getting really cold air so this noise is moreso just a nusaunce.
Any idea what might be causing this and how much it would be to repair?
FWIW: 2010 F150 XLT

Did you purchase the car new or used?
Chances are it was in an accident and they replaced your A/C unit with that of a.... Hummer...
You get it....?

Could be that the clutch on the ac is going out. If it does, the ac will freeze up. That could pop a surpentine belt quick.

Well that doesn't sound cheap at all.

They never are. That's a doomsday scenario, but a legitimate one. I'd have it looked at. It could be one of those things that just go away.

Exact same happened to my truck. It's most likely AC condenser. Dealership will charge you about $1200 to replace.
I replaced my own in about 2 hours for $500

ned on. The higher I turn the A/C, the louder the hum.
This does not sound like the compressor. The compressor is either on or off. Turning the a/c higher just adjusts the speed of the blower fan. It's possibly the blower motor but probably just some obstruction that is vibrating in the ductwork.

How can I check this on my own?

Do you mean the higher you turn the fan/blower speed the louder the hum?

Does the humming go away if you change the setting to defrost only or to floor only?

Not sure. I'll report back later on regarding that. Will be running to the store soon and will check.

this. blower is going out or more likely the condom wrapper your wife's guy friend left in there is stuck by the squirrel cage.
