But I will probably only need to trim once every few years.

Climb the tree like a real man and use a hand saw

Do you also handle your own yard work? Weed eat, edge, etc.

Stihl, and probably others, have quick attach models for all of the varying attachments.
I have one of Stihl's Kombi sets with a couple attachments. The most expensive part is the base unit which they have options from cheaper residential use to heavy commercial use.

I have a fiskars extendable pole saw from Costco and it works pretty well, but after a few limbs you're going to be tired. I got a harbor freight pole saw that works well but doesn't reach nearly as far (I think it extends like 8 feet). As others here have said, just hire someone. It gets sketchy real quick especially if you're getting on a ladder.

I have a couple acres with trees and I use the manual version. It cuts easily and it extends higher than the powered versions I've seen, plus way cheaper. Just my preference.

Borrow your brother’s.. If you break it it’s on him. Claim it was running perfect when he comes to get it.

Yeah, I mow and use the weed whacker to edge. It gives me some extra exercise, saves a little money, and shows the kids it’s OK to do work. That’s a win-win-win in my book.

I decided to go this route. I figure I can use it to keep the branches away from the house and vehicles. If the trees start looking a bit lopsided in a few years, I’ll hire somebody to even it all out.

I asked a tree guy one time if he thought I could use an extension ladder to trim some limbs. He said sure, but go ahead and call 911 before you start so the ambulance can already be on their way.

Rent an echo from Home Depot. It is not expensive and will be 10x faster then what you're talking about buying.

I own an Echo PPT 2620 and it's a beast. I live in the country on land and I have a TON of hardwoods. I've definitely put mine through the paces and it's proven to be a good tool.

If you live in a subdivision, definitely rent one but I use mine enough and need it throughout the year.
