Interesting. Defense isn't even arguing that he did it. They are going for the "he is a retard" defense and want the jury to let him go so he can spend some time in a hospital.
Defense is even trotting out the "his family has a history of mental illness" line. Are all mental illnesses hereditary? Does the family history matter or is that just a red herring?

The defense lawyers can only work with what they have. If there was a shred of chance this guy was innocent, they’d argue that.
