I had to climb up some vertical ladders on a job we were on, it was only about 110' and I was in pretty good shape at the time. Let me tell you, I was worn out by the time I got up there, you have to be in damn good shape to do that type of work. Then if you get up there and have to shite ..... what you going to do?

I would probably forget a tool or part I need and have to climb back down and up at least three different time to finish the job.

You couldn't pay me enough currency in dollars or Carrie Underwood BJ's to do that.

I bet they only do that in calm winds because that fricker would be swaying if it was windy. I'd lose my shite anyway.

In my younger days I did electrical work for a living. We would change the lights and stuff at Commonwealth Stadium. Now, you didn't have to climb, there was a cart that strapped to the pole that took you up and down, but climbing would have been quicker. Took like 20 minutes to go up or down.
The poles were about 170' in the air, and you had a platform about 8 inches wide to stand and walk around. You had to be harnessed off just like the climbers.
When it was somewhat windy, they were designed to sway 10 feet in either direction, and it did too.

The worst was when any kind of sudden weather blew in, you couldn't get down quick enough. That tower climber must need an hour or more to climb down, can't imagine if he got caught in a storm.

I'm sure those guys watch the weather like a hawk and only go up when they have a massive window to work with.

Did tower work type stuff a long time ago. Guy I worked with fell from a couple hundred feet up and walked away. Pretty much walked away. They had to tackle him when he got up after the fall. Guy he was on the tower with didn't fair as well, but still lived.

This video is still the ultimate for maximum pucker factor while watching. These two guys are free climbing to 2200 feet only securing to the tower when stopping to rest, and when they reach the top. If you watch closely, when they reach the top the guy is standing on top of the tower with no safety line attached for a few seconds while he sorts out his rigging.

I'm not sure I could trust those pegs at the very top not to break off.
