Sirens just went off. Though the radar map shows it hasn't really hit us yet.

I am just south of 380 in Frisco/Mckinney.....

You're just north of me. Close your blinds and shutters. The hail is intense. Heard 1 window break already.

Decent sized hail core over you. At least from the radar.

You're pretty much right near me. The dude on Fox said the sirens went off due to the hail.

Rain is really coming down now. No hail for me, but my buddy who lives about 2 miles away said he just started getting some.

ON that note...I hear it now.

Sirens don't go off for hail, they go off for tornado warnings. Then they go off for entire counties, rather than just who is in the polygon, then on top of that polygons are too wide and come out too late. I can't wait til FACETS becomes operational, warnings and especially sirens are horrible.

Just telling you what the weather dude said on Fox, he also specifically said they don't only go off for tornado warnings(which was new news to me). And pretty sure the area was never under a tornado warning, but our sirens went off twice about 15 minutes apart, the 2nd time was probably less than 10 minutes ago. No tornado warning here.

Not true. Each city in NTX has their own criteria for when sirens go off. These went off sue to severe weather & hail. Starts a heated conversation every time they sound the sirens without a tornado warning but their bottom line is to get traffic & pedestrians to safety when dangerous weather is imminent.

The sirens can also be activated individually, as a group or as a whole.

City of Frisco, TX

quote:

Warning Sirens

The City of Frisco's Outdoor Warning Siren system consists of 36 sirens placed strategically throughout the city. The sirens may be activated individually or in groups to provide localized warnings. Sirens may also be activated simultaneously to provide a general alert for the entire community. The Outdoor Warning Sirens can be controlled from either the Central Fire Station, the 911 Dispatch Center at the Frisco Police Department or from certain Fire Department vehicles.

The Outdoor Warning Siren system uses several different and unique tones to alert residents to the imminent approach of severe weather and other emergencies requiring immediate notification. This system is a part of an emergency network designed to provide for the safety of our citizens. Radio and television (including the city's government access channels) as well as public address systems mounted on fire and police vehicles, may also be used to provide information to our citizens, as needed.
