I read that vehicle burglaries are up like 90+% in Nola. I wonder what's causing such a dramatic increase?

Wrong, the NOPD has been gutted and rebuilt to conform to the consent decree and views of this and the previous mayor. In addition, local politicians have used "criminal justice reform" to attack incarceration and "high bail". The entire system is broken.
Here is the typical incident: juvenile shatters car window, NOPD is called, if NOPD shows up to the scene its no less than 15-20 min later, if NOPD encounters the perp they can't chase or pursue above the speed limit, if perp apprehended they are released on little to no bail (sometimes bailed out by non-profits within arms length of local government employees), if convicted no significant penalty or jail time, rinse and repeat. These are considered nonviolent offenses, unless someone attempts to stop them and one of these kids pulls a gun.

Google “Restorative Justice” and George Soro’s efforts in that area. It is a low profile Progressive effort to up end our justice system through the election of like minded DA’s nationwide.

Had friends over night of 12/28. Live in Irish Channel. Friend accidentally left his key fob in truck overnight and they smashed his back window (likely just to look for guns and cash originally) but realized it was a push button ignition and pressed push to start and stole truck. Idiots didn’t realize these new vehicles have GPS Location services so we knew exactly in Nola East they were staying.

Reported to both my precinct and NOLA East precinct. Told them they were presently on the move, gave them their whereabouts and 7th precinct officers went and tracked them down and arrested 4 of them when they ran the truck out of fuel on Chef Menteur Hwy and I-510.

They joyrode the heck out of this truck in only a few hours. Wrecked it up real good, likely a full total.

My cameras didn’t pick up the theft but my neighbors did. They stole truck around 4:20 am and we realized it was missing at 10:30 am. Truck went from having 250 miles till empty in it to 14 miles till empty at 10:30 am.

Cops originally blue lighted them while they were trying to get gas and they made a run for it (probably well knowing that in property crimes police can’t engage in a high speed chase). We told officers that they were by that time approximately 1 mile to go till fuel tank empty and they waited them out and got them when they got out of truck and moved on foot.

We believe they were trying to make a run towards Chalmette, guessing thinking it would’ve gotten NOPD off their tail but at that same time NOPD was coordinating with State Troopers to pick them up as soon as they neared Chalmette, but them running out of fuel prevented all that.

I’ll say the 7th Precinct (Nola East) officers crushed it and took it very seriously and acted as promptly as they could and managed situation as best one could hope.

The 6th Precinct (that covers Irish Channel) was an embarrassment in this particular instance (they were really quick to respond to an issue we had on our street back in September). 6th Precinct on Saturday only had 2 officers working. Their precinct covers 180,000 Nola residents. How is that even possible???

Conversely, the 7th Precinct was operating with like 15-20 officers on duty at the time.

Sad this is the reality of the world we live in at present. I’m not sure what the “best” solution is, but if you have a newer vehicle make sure you sync it to your GPS so you can find these perps if they steal it.

Of the 4 arrested at least 1-2 were 18, hope they can be prosecuted as adults. I’m told there were some 16 year old kids also arrested. I’m sure they’ll be prosecuted as minors, but I dk.

Does anyone know where online I can find arrest records? I couldn’t find it yesterday during a brief look. I imagine the recent city ransomeware hack has something to do with the limited internet searching?

Nice substantive response

Criminal justice “reform” has basically been hijacked by zealots who don’t believe in real consequences.
