Make sure you ask them if they accounted for all the gauze they use during the surgery. My child's didn't go so well after we found this 5 days later. That and make sure the surgical center is under your insurance too. The doctor was covered but the surgical center was not. Doctor handled the situation for us but only because he made those mistakes. Overall, wouldn't do it again. Good luck to you and your son.

My youngest daughter is having hers this Tuesday. My oldest daughter had the same surgery as well. I think I was more worried then her. I loaded up on jello, yogurt, apple sauce(different flavors) popsicles stuff like that. They'll give you all the directions and tips Im sure. Positive thoughts sent your way

Had mine out at 18. Was a terrible experience but the younger they are the better the experience is. Took a lot of pain medication and slept for two weeks. Didn't eat much the first few days, pain medicine knocked me out a good bit of it. Lots of water and soft, cold things: pudding, jello, etc. He'll be fine.

I'm curious what made them decide to do it? Was it a certain number or frequency of strep type symptoms? Our son has had a few this year and we wondered about it.

5 strep infections in past 14 mo, snores, wakes up a lot at night, constantly clearing throat, and gets bronchitis too often. His adenoids overproduce mucous and X-ray shows they are too big.
They recommended it when he was 4, but we waited til he's 7 to decrease risk of adenoids growing back.

Surgery went fine. He's at home and sleeping now.
He was hilarious after they gave him the Versed beforehand. It was a little unnerving in recovery... not too long after we got in there he started screaming and thrashing around a bit. He wasn't conscious though.
Thanks for all the advice!

My sister-in-law warned me about that. Also advised to bring a barf bowl for the ride home. Thankfully we didn't need it.
