Both of my kids were 3 or 4 when they had theirs removed.
They slept better instantly and caught less sinus infections after.
Watch out a day or two after the surgery, both of mine caught a very high fever but it didn’t last long.

Popsicles work great.
It's gonna make a big difference in your child

Popsicles, ice cream, whatever their favorite drink is.
There are pedialyte popsicles.
Just keep them hydrated to get through the worst of it.
Water, pedialyte, juice (be careful some acidic juices can hurt), but if the only think he will drink is coke, don’t care.
Watch the bleeding. Your ENT may say to avoid ibuprofen/motrin or they may say he can take it.
Either way, just watch out for bleeding.
Vast majority of most kids do just fine. Convincing them to drink can be tough at that age so don’t fight them on what they want.
Good luck.

A few months ago, almost 2 weeks after my six-year-old daughter’s tonsillectomy, she had a severe hemorrhaging event in the middle of the night from the right tonsil bed. Lost a cup or two of blood before it clotted. She was fine, but it scared the shite out of us. just a heads up.

My 3 year old got his out this past year. The worst is like 3-5 days out. Breath smells like gargled a-hole as well for a week or so. Good luck

FTF, this surgery was great for us.
Our daughter had the same problems (constant strep, swollen throat) and at age 5 had it done and no problems since.
Totally worth it.
Sounds like yours is a good candidate.

Hardest part was right when my 4 year old came to after anesthesia. She was a mess and call me soft if you want, but so was I. After 30 min or so, it was pretty smooth sailing. Ice cream, movies, yogurt, spoil them some.
