I only heard of it after Virginia Tech because it was mentioned as deadliest school massacre besides this one in U.S. history.

Just saw that today was the actual anniversary.

During rescue efforts at the school, searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol connected to a timing device set to detonate at the same time as the first explosions

how did that not go off with the initial explosion?

I read about this before. Kehoe also murdered his ill wife at the farm before he blew up the school. I think her body was found thrown in a wheel barrow in the backyard.

Messed up story that seems like it's never been well-publicized.

Just saw you posted the stuff from wikipedia. Kehoe was a sick dude.

On this same note. Nothing short of a miracle prevented a similar number of deaths. Saw a Lifetime-esque movie on this on Netflix and then did my digging IRL.

Cokeville Elementary Hostage Crisis

This is really amazing how many things went wrong for this bomb to not kill ANYONE.

In those days anyone could buy dynamite, many hardware and farm supply stores kept it in stock.

Cokeville Elementary Hostage Crisis

Just read more about this. That's incredible.

I'm not one to freely believe in divine intervention, but the accounts of different children seeing deceased relatives guiding them to safety gave me chills.
