We lost a good man over the summer.
I got a D in his Thermodynamics class and in Fluid Mechanics (or at least I think I did but can’t remember because some lockstep courses required a C) with another great Dr. Gonthier but that was more a reflection upon me as a student.
Although I didn’t know him personally very well you could tell his soul was bright and that he cared.
I have one profound memory, I was taking a test in the middle row in Lockett and was twirling my hair and was noticeably confused. I looked up and he was staring at me and I smiled in that way that Vince Vaughn smiles back in old school when he says “good test” And he smiled back.
It was a simple but heartfelt moment that showed his soul.
May he RIP.

He definitely was one of the better ME teachers. Had him for both thermos and heat transfer.
My first semester of ME classes I took thermo 1. I misread the time of the final and showed up as he was leaving the class room. Explained what happened and he let me take it with another student in the ME teacher lounge. Ended up making an A, somehow. His tests seemed easier than his actual class.

Definitely a great man and caring professor.
I got an email from Dr Nik about it. They were supposed to be planning a memorial service, but I never heard about it coming together.
I took Thermo with Dr C the first semester they combined it into a single 5 hour class. Likely the only way I got through it....

Didn't know him, and wouldn't have stood a chance in a thermodynamics course, but I know there are a few professors who stick with you through the years.
RIP.
RIP.

I think the fact that we are all gathering in this thread to pay respects to a professor is a testament to the LSU ME program. It’s not just the material but the entire process leaves a lasting impression

Excellent educator and even greater man. Didn't realize he passed. Sad to hear.

Damn. Had him for both thermos in ME. Damn good professor & man. Loved his teaching style. My first thermo test had me thinking that I wasn’t cut out for engineering, but I persisted. I still invoke him to this day when I tell my interns not to be “cookbook engineers”.
RIP Dr. C (or better) :(
