I grew up on winbourne avenue in N Baton Rouge until I got into a scrap with a few of the boys from the neighborhood and mom moved us to DS
East over estates which is a hell hole
Dad left when I was 2, never heard from again. Mom (adopted) ran away from her home at 15 and so never finished school
So, grew up to a single parent home, uneducated, in the ghettos

My dad's side of the family has always been pretty well off. Both grandparents are college grads, all my dad's side graduated college and went on to have decent and in a few cases excellent careers. My mom's side of the family was poor. We were the definition of middle class. I could get name brand shoes, but we didn't "summer" places or go on ski trips several times a year.
As I've gotten older, I realize just how trashy my mother's side of the family is. She readily admits to that. I used to go to family functions all the time and never really thought anything of it. Now that I'm older, I try to distance myself as much as possible.

Grew up working class. People weren't as insecure about themselves as people are today
