I'm sure there are people that fit this description, but for me, it has nothing to do with guilt over the past. My point is that you should have some basic sympathy towards immigrants - illegal or otherwise - considering the ways this country was founded. Talking about "our country" and defending "our laws" in the context of immigration is historically inaccurate. You and I wouldn't be here if our great great great great great grandparents didn't pack up and come here to take what they wanted. There is no need to sugarcoat those actions because they're inconvenient to the arguments people want to make today.
If you want to keep them out, fine, but I've got a lot of respect for anyone that feels strongly enough about America to try to get here any way they can - whether it be in 2016 or 1716.

Fair, and I've never suggester otherwise, but that isn't the case for all of them. I'm not stupid and I understand that open borders simply aren't feasible, but so many people swing it in the complete opposite direction that is the antithesis of how this country was formed.
My original comment addressed someone who basically said you don't come into our country unless we say you can, and I'm just pointing out that it is incredibly hypocritical considering how 95% of us got our citizenship. It wasn't some bleeding heart bullshite, and I completely agree that the past is behind us, but people should have the wherewithal to understand that past and communicate their position on immigration within the context of how we got here in the first place.
There are generations of no-good leeches that sit on their arse in this country who will tell you that they don't want immigrants to come in and abuse the system. The hypocrisy is overwhelming at times.
