I had a friend that flew Sabres out of England, LSU grad from Natchez, they were being sent to Vietnam and he flew up to Natchez and buzzed family and friends and accidentally slipped through the Mach, some nerd ratted him out, he got grounded for six months, passed over for O-4, still went to Vietnam, his squadron was a fast FAC squadron and he got shot down and sent downtown, they were all segregated at the time and using the tap code to communicate and establish rank/seniority, when he tapped his rank and date of commission the place sounded like a popcorn machine with everyone calling bs, they couldn’t believe he was still a Captain with his date of commission

Louisiana's nine dedicated ICE facilities have been holding more than 7,000 detainees each day, on average, in recent months. The state dramatically expanded ICE detention during the first Trump administration, growing its network from four detention centers and about 2,000 detainees.

agree, he was quite a character, he called himself a Lt. Col. by default because he made rank while in the jailhouse, he said otherwise they'd have found some reason to kick him out of the AF his brother and I are good friends and he lives in Baton Rouge, he just donated all of his Vietnam/USAF memorabilia to LSU

yessir! those cats were a different breed and their numbers are dwindling but I sure love hanging around with them, he ended up making O-6 I think, but being a former POW was golden, as it should be, he was a hard charging, hard drinking, gambling, and major slayer of poon almost to the end

agree, Olds had a lot of those traits, just with a little more discipline, but I've helped put him to bed at reunions a time or two

I'm pretty sure he knew or knew of Tony McPeak, #6 T-Bird pilot that actually broke the wings off a F100 Charlie model while performing one of their show maneuvers. He was able to eject but because of the incident, a major issue was discovered with fatigue in the wing box structure forcing an inspection and rework on the fleet.

One of my dad’s friends and classmate flew the F-100s in Vietnam also and I flew as his FO on the 727. I was always asking him questions about combat. He never had any dogfights, just bombing and strafing runs. I asked him once if he ever saw enemy soldiers on the ground and he said, “Hell yeah. Bombing the Ho Chi Minh trail, we’d get so low over the trees that I could see those sonofabitch’s faces.”

My uncle was an Artillery Officer in WW2.Retired to the old homestead in Grant parish where he grew up.Working in his garden one day and an A10 flew over real low.He said he snapped to attention and saluted. He said the pilot saluted him back.
He got a big kick out of that.
