Saw a screenshot of a guy asking a moderator why he got suspended.

So they banned him for asking why.

The influence of this site, particularly in the sports world, is highly underestimated but also somewhat evident if you know where to look.

Never had a Reddit account and never will.

As a frequent visitor to both, Reddit and TD are generally two sides of the same coin.

Both have their hiveminds who aren't interested in nuance all that much and just want their feelings validated by their respective peers as opposed to having a fluid open-minded conversation.

They do a lot of other stuff too like not enough flair to post here ect...

But reddit also has porn, this site doesnt. Its just strange what they decide you can say or not say there but also have porn.

Doesnt seem to be any consistency on that front and td does with what they would ban.

And anyone saying the app is better, frick no. I prefer td in the browser. the reddit app and typing in the app is shite.

They also dont allow much dissenting views.

ha. I merely suggested that one of the zero covid people seek pscyiatric help for their agoraphobia so they could see their friends and family, and I was instantly banned and accused of gaslighting.

They'll auto ban anyone who ever posted in a "bad" sub even if you never even opened their sub. It's mind boggling how sensitive they are about anyone different from themselves.

I got banned on Random Thoughts. Prompt was "What is the weirdest thing society has normalized?"

My response: People choosing their pronouns. Boom -- banned for transphobia :lol"

The mods are regarded.

You didn't even say anything about transgenders. You could easily have been talking about neo pronouns.

Yeah, I mean Reddit (over 500 million users and ~140,000 subreddits) absolutely dwarfs Tigerdroppings (280,213 users) in scale which makes Reddit almost impossible to consistently moderate.

It's like the current firearms debate of USA vs other countries. Sure, Australia bought back something like 650,000 guns which amounted to around 1/4 of what was in circulation, but would that work in the USA, where there are ~393 million floating around, many of which are in the hands of criminals? Probably not.

Apples to oranges. The two websites are so different in size and scale that you can't in good faith compare the two for most metrics.

Agree. Some of the notifications don't work, and both the app and the website are monkeypox.

It's not because people get banned for sharing opinions that the mods don't like - that very rarely happens.

If you opt-out of the Reddit redesign and use an ad blocker, the old version of the website is super easy to digest.

But I agree that the default version and mobile experience is poor. TD has a better layout, but there are also usually way less comments/posts to sort through.

What makes TD great is the balance.

It has enough traffic to keep moving, but not so much that every topic gets buried. It’s got enough people to have some diversity of thought but it’s also small enough to still be somewhat intimate and community oriented.

Nailed it.

While Reddit does have it's place, it's vastness is also a deterrence for me. I totally agree that topics can get blurred and boarder line overwhelming due to it's size. While I go to Reddit often to get content on a very specific topic, my TD-OT visits are 10 times a day or more (in the off season). If it's football, baseball, women''s bball season, it would be easier to calculate work hours than my TD hours.

TD - intimate, regional and community oriented

TD is part of my everyday life - so much so, that it launches as my home page for every browser on my computer, home TVs, tablets, phones...including my work pc. It's where I get my news.

My preference is TD obviously. But I would be concerned by the site as a whole not attracting younger, newer posters

ETA:
From a user perspective, the platform is not very user-friendly with regards to posting pics. There is no doubt in my mind, if that one change can be implemented, you'll attract and retain tons of new posters and add to the younger base as well.

No, Reddit is very consistent. Any opinion to the right of Bernie Sanders is prohibited.
