His little boy's mom posted a picture of his son and commented about how strong he is...just like his dad. I had to take a break and gather myself. Heartbreaking.

the go fund me page should be placed in the OP, it'll be easier for people to find. Maybe include something about it in the title as well.

Prayers for the family

WillCover: you should post the gofundme link in your original thread.

It's up to $28,489.

I don't know this guy but I know about 50% of the people that donated. So I may have met him along the way.... Sending good vibes to his little boy.

It's up to $29.5 now.

Speaks volumes of the type of person he was.

Curious about the significance of $444 donations.

There are several with that amount.

Possibly because he always wore #44 in all the sports that he played. (I have seen this reference in several Facebook posts)

With all of the negative crap going on in the world and our community right now, this gives me hope and reminds me that there ARE good people out there and restores my faith in humanity.

Heartbreaking to imagine a boy losing his father so young. Just made a small donation, in addition to keeping the family in my prayers.

I don't think I knew him personally (I'm sure we've met before and can guarantee that we ran in the same circles (about the same age & share about 30 friends on FB. Think he may have been a SO of a former coworker too). Everyone I've seen posting about him has had nothing but the best things to say about him. Very sad.

On another note, I had no idea his ex was Orton's wife. I met his ex-inlaws at Champs in Town Center years ago when was with the Bears. Being a big Bears fan, I was surprised to see a whole table of what was obviously Louisiana natives cheering for them and we were sitting right next to them. We started chatting and they explained the connection (daughter/stepdaughter being married to Orton).

Small arse world!

Didn't know you, but RIP! And God bless your son & family!

$172 away from $30K raised in 1 day.

I hope there's enough donations to cover funeral and do a nice sized college fund for his son.

and it's over 30 grand.
So happy that we could do that for his son knowing how hard of a life he's going to have without his dad in the picture.
I'm sure Brett is up there smiling down knowing his son will have a chance at a good life when he gets older.
It's these little things you have to grasp onto in situations like this.
