1 of the 1000+ reasons I was the furthest thing from an English major.
I can relate to your "that" issue though. I was finding I was using it all the time and then realized the sentence doesn't really need it at all. I'll still type with it and then go back and remove it upon review.

See, most of the ones they removed were much better without it, but a few looked silly without it to me.
Oh well.
I don't have to suffer through reading the article like the readers do.
