As much of a big deal as it is made out to be in the media, all of the black people I know and have spoken too over the years (Uncle Tom's, regular, thugs, etc) don't care or have any issues with other races. Well, the older ones do, but the ones younger than 50 DGAF.

Everything about New Orleans is amazing except for the crime. That problem stems from the top down. Comes from the mayor and city council members to the cops stuck on desk duty. It just seems like none of them really care about it. After my latest dealings with the 2nd District cops (right by the armed robbery), I was basically made to feel like my getting something stolen was my fault. I told them I met a girl at a concert, hung out with her and her friends all night, and she ended up stealing something. They told me I shouldn't be picking up prostitutes and shouldn't have had expensive things around them. Um......wtf?

The desk jockey ended up not actual filing the report I gave her, then filed it incorrectly, and I had to through some other channels to make sure it got fixed. Complete ineptitude and playing the blame game.

It's a gigantic shithole. And it's not gonna get better.

10 million people went to see a shithole. Whoopdeedo. It's still a shite hole. Infrastructure is shot, crime is only gonna get worse, and the mayor is out to frickin lunch.

I'd go there to take a dump and eat a poboy, but then I'm gettin out asap.

Why the frick not??? What is the point of releasing the story if there is someone out there robbing people with a shotgun?

It's obviously got something going on if that many people come to visit, that many people have moved here from inside and outside of Louisiana, and there are that many conventions and festivals that people come to from out of town

If the leadership changes, the priorities change, and hopefully that'll be for the better

A man armed with a shotgun robbed three 18-year-olds at a park Uptown on Tuesday night.

According to New Orleans police, the three victims were sitting in a park at the corner of Napoleon Avenue and Camp Street around 9:20 p.m. when a shotgun-armed man approached them and demanded their phone and money.

The victims complied, and the robber fled.

No information on the robber has been released.

Probably lives in the same complex.

Amazing. Once again, NOLA is the only city in America with crime. I think I read NOLA is the only city that has had a rape, murder, and armed robbery in one month. Horrible city. So glad I live in Houston where no crime exists.

But I agree, it's really in a bad place right now. Crime is out of control, there is no leadership, racial tensions are at a all time high, the NOPD is just complete disarray, it's really a fricking mess

Yep. I gave up my spot in Endymion this year and told my wife that we are not going to Mardi Gras because NOLA is such a shitshow now. Using the money to take my wife and daughter to Ireland.

Robbery at Napoleon Avenue park by man with shotgun; gun seized in search of suspect’s home, police say
What a terrible title. Makes it seem like they found the gun used in the robbery when in fact, they found a different gun which means nothing.

One of the crime-prevention strategies police have suggested is creating a “grid” of private surveillance cameras around neighborhoods to capture images of suspects approaching or fleeing from robberies. Detectives are still looking for any cameras that may assist with the Laurence Square case, Noel said, and the Second District station does not have any — nor do any police buildings around the city, said a spokesman for the department.
So basically, they want people to start buying cameras for them?

Geez, I wonder what would've happened if the Nagin crime cameras actually worked. The red light and speeding ones sure as frick do
quote:

In 2005 and 2006, a larger camera project failed to get off the ground as various St. Pierre companies set up deals with computer giant Dell Inc. to sell them to New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Savannah, Ga., and elsewhere. St. Pierre gave Meffert a corporate credit card, letting him charge big sums for personal items while he was city tech chief, including exotic vacations for him, Nagin and their families.

As soon as the civil trial ended last November, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten indicted St. Pierre, Meffert and Meffert's wife Linda, charging them with a 63-count corruption scheme centered on the crime camera deal and the money St. Pierre paid to the Mefferts.

After Meffert left City Hall, there were only 53 Dell cameras in place. Nagin still promised a network of 250 cameras, but the wireless connections that were supposed to enable the cameras to communicate images back to police stations had major problems. A new vendor tried to establish a different process, but a new scandal broke out. Nagin's new technology chief, Anthony Jones, was accused of taking gratuities from a vendor and falsifying payments. An audit found the city didn't get the network it asked for, and Jones was fired.

Records of exactly how much money the city spent on the cameras are spotty. The city has paid for equipment, but also for contract personnel to install and maintain the system over the years. The total could be as high as $10 million. A city tally of the contract costs in early 2009 totaled more than $6 million. A review of the post-Meffert crime camera contract earlier this year showed that 200 cameras and network equipment under the latest contract would have cost another $4 million.

Nagin's last crime camera vendor, Technology Consortium Group, claimed all of the units were working in February. But after Ronal Serpas took over as police superintendent in May, he said he found many of them were still down.

"There were many days that so few were operating that they had no impact," Serpas said Thursday, adding that the NOPD found that private cameras provided more help to detectives.
And another genius executive decision by the new mayor to just let them rot
quote:

Given that ignominious track record and the millions the city has paid for a camera network that rarely worked, Mayor Mitch Landrieu unceremoniously pulled the plug on the project Thursday.

"Most of us can agree that based on the way that they were installed, based on the way that they operated and the way that they were not maintained, that they were not a good investment," Landrieu said as he announced his proposal to scratch the program from the city budget. The budget requires City Council approval.

For now, the cameras will stay in place, but won't be maintained. Landrieu said he wants to wait to see if they are ever something they could use again before taking them down.

"When you really prioritize and you're asking whether that is the best money spent on trying to make the streets safe, we concluded given our financial pressures and our requirement to the city that we not waste money, that that's not a good priority for us," Landrieu said
The crime problems and solutions come from the top, and the head honchos are idiots and criminals. Until someone with some ethics and brains gets elected, not much will change
