In Louisiana, approximately 30 students earn perfect ACT scores each year, the release stated. Baton Rouge Magnet High School currently has nine students with perfect ACTs,

This is really impressive, regardless of what TD posters say. For one school to generate about 10% of the state's perfect scores is somethimg to be proud of. Several of my daughters attended BRMHS and although none scored perfect 36s, they all did well on the test and excelled in college due, in part, to the solid college prep curriculum. One of my daughters friends scored a perfect 36 and went on to Harvard after his junior year at BRMHS.

For certain none are going to college in LA. I'd guess Ivy League, MIT, and some liberal arts college. Though #2 might decide to waste their time at somewhere like SCAD

A girl at my son’s school scored a 36 twice (second time was when they took it for free on a school day), got rejected by MIT, and settled for Mississippi State. Likewise, 5 of their 6 National Merit Finalists are reportedly heading to Mississippi State after getting turned down by their top choices. I find this mind-boggling. I’m guessing they are getting full rides there and not from LSU.

I'm living through the college selection process right now through my daughter and her friends. She has friends going to Cornell, Notre Dame, Columbia, and my daughter has a stack of college admission offers that we are sorting through right now.

What I have learned, however, is that college admissions is no more predictable than throwing dice at the casino. The problem is that the elite schools have very few admission spots available.

Look at the numbers. For example, MIT admits about 1,100 freshman students each year. If they try to keep it gender neutral, that means only 550 possible spots for qualified girls and the same for boys. Then they want to keep some balance of white v. minority, that reduces the spots to about 300. They get applicants from every state and internationally. For kids from Louisiana trying to get into MIT, that leaves 1, maybe 2 possible spots for Louisiana kids, at the most, that they are competing for.

The numbers aren't much different for any of the top colleges. For Louisiana kids to get into top colleges, the admissions offices have to rate the applicant as pretty much the best from Louisiana. At that level, getting an admission invitation may come down to a dice throw.

Young Robert is a brilliant, polite and charming young man and a frequent guest at the Pimp abode. His family should be very proud of him- he works hard and has a strong social game. Pimp Jr thinks he’s among the nicest kids at BRMHS . Krishna is a great kid as well .

BRMHS continues to crank them out year after year . Great school with great kids.

It sounds like a lot of these kids from my son’s school were weak on extracurriculars though. They all relied on their academics and ethnicity, and that wasn’t enough. One of my son’s friends from out of state got into Stanford with a 34, but the kid travels the world competing in athletics - nothing relevant to college athletics, but he’s an impressive young man. It’s a shame LSU no longer gives a full ride for National Merit Finalists and all these kids end up out of state. But if they could knock down a 3 or pitch 95 mph...

Why blame TAF for a lack of academic scholarships? They give $ to the school..

That is true, true, true. My daughter is taking her $2,500 National Merit scholarship out of state. It isn’t worth a penny more at LSU
