lack of empathy and compassion is much much worse for this country than the obesity epidemic.
do you know how much diabetes and heart disease already costs? imagine what happens when the obese children of today grow up to be obese adults. we can't afford to treat all of that shite

The mythical "thyroid is making me obese"
How many obese people TRULY suffer from thyroid issues.
My father has gained a bunch of weight recently and now has type 2 diabetes among other health issues. You think I'm just gonna sit back and accept him the way he is?? No, I have point blank told my dad "if you don't make weight loss a priority Dad, you are gonna die sooner because of it. You will not get to see your future grandchild get older because you choose to eat seconds and thirds and drink soda all the time instead of making healthier food choices"
I love my dad, and that's why I'm not gonna sugarcoat what he is doing to himself.

Fat people don't get it. Stop complaining or do something about your disgusting habits

I have sympathy for "normal" fat people who try and lose weight but can't and feel bad about it. I feel bad for anyone who can't accomplish what they want and they're genuinely depressed about it. I recognize it's within their control, but I do recognize it isn't the same struggle for every person. I don't have sympathy for people who are self-righteous about being unhealthy and try and back it up with pseudo-social justice theories (as if any social justice theories are legit, but I digress).
Absotively posilutely right on

i do do. i'm kind of in that boat, but i know people who are literally 2-3x worse off than me

yes. when i fall off the wagon. i fully admit it
a possible worse crowd is the "i don't give a frick/am proud of being fat" people

You think drinking pure sugar is a good idea?

doesn't a thyroid condition or something like that make people unable to lose weight or at least struggle with it.
I knew you were a fattie.
Trotting out the bs of the thyroid condition that affects less than 1 percent of the population.
Add in the fact that people with thyroid conditions actually watch their diets like a hall and exercise every day....and you have the compete destruction of your little excuse, fattie.

its just a few things i have heard as part of the roots of the problem, I don't pretend to be a doctor or to have "intimate knowledge" of the subject - although i hope you don't actually consider 4 sentences intimate knowledge about something.

Of course not.
But I also can't try and say my dad can't help it. He can. He is trying to eat better and I encourage him whenever I talk to him. But he didn't gain the weight magically....his food choices and not getting the exercise he needs is what did that.
Posted on 6/24/14 at 5:51 pm to SneakySally
Exactly. You're just lazy.

There is fat, and there is disgusting fat. A lot of the overweight people in this country probably don't even strike you as overweight. The idea that every 6'0 guy should weight X amount to avoid being overweight is pretty dumb, and I don't have any ire for people like that.
But people like described in this thread certainly deserve it. As for her dad, I'm sure she's just being dramatic because she cares. It is kind of annoying that we treat drinking a Coke like it is a faux pas, so I am definitely into health-shaming in limited circumstances, too.
Posted on 6/24/14 at 5:52 pm to CptBengal
Fat shaming might be the best thing to happen in this country if it actually results in people getting off their lazy asses.
