The most ridiculous part of this story is the District Attorney continuing to refer to this woman as a "victim" who was "subjected to sexual contact" by this guy.

What a waste of money. The entire state of Alabama is so fricked up on so many levels.

On a side note, that law in Alabama that makes it a Class B Felony for anyone of any age who is employed by a school to have consensual sex with any student under 19 years old is being challenged based on its constitutionality. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

well we can't be having teachers having sex with the 7th graders now!

Hilariously enough, the law is so vague that it would apply to a 19 year old working as a bus driver part time who is in a relationship with an 18 year old student in another school district. The law doesn't give a specific definition for "School employee" or "student", and the word "school" isn't defined at all.

It's the most ridiculously written law I've ever seen. Didn't even realize it until the recent rash of Teacher/Student relationships that have popped up across Tuscaloosa.

There are 3 or 4 different teachers in Tuscaloosa County in their 20s who are currently being charged with a felony and facing life time sex offender registration for being in a relationship with an 18 year old. It's quite sad.

A decent DA would wipe his arse with this law and dismiss the charge. But that would require decency. DAs and politicians won't stop until most of the citizenry are sex offenders.

I enjoy how an 18 yr old can't frick, but could be drafted to war, vote, drive, and work. And that same DA would charge a 15 yr old as an adult if accused of a crime.

Had this exact conversation with a guy who is a close friend of one of the accused teachers in Tuscaloosa. These 18 year olds are "children" when the state deems it convenient. They're also "adults" when the state deems it convenient.

Old enough to help determine the president of the united states, die for their country in war, or be put to death for murder. And as long as they're not having sex with a teacher - can have sex with anyone of any age they choose. 16 year old (age of consent in Alabama) banging her 70 year old boss? No problem. 18 year old banging her 23 year old teacher? 18 year old is now a "child", a "victim" and the teacher is a registered sex offender for life and a convicted felon, and consent can't be used as a defense - even if it was the 18 year old student who initiated and pursued the relationship.

If any of you frickers would ever leave your five mile radius you would know this is NORMAL. This happens in every country on a regular basis except for the US.

16 is an adult imo, 18 is the official age. no one is a damn child in high school.

That's another point we discussed. Over and over again, the District Attorney's offices refer to these 18 year olds as "victims" and "children" when defending the law. That's bogus. What 18 year old doesn't know exactly what they're doing as it relates to engaging in a sexual relationship? These people aren't being brainwashed by their teacher, who is less than 10 years older than them. They aren't being coerced. They are mutually deciding to enter into a sexual relationship.

That's not a defense of the morality of it. I think teachers who have sexual relationships with students are certainly committing a laundry list of ethics violations and probably shouldn't keep their teaching license. But that doesn't make it a criminal act. To criminalize a consensual relationship where coercion is clearly not used is 100% unconstitutional and a silly waste of taxpayers' money.

I was going to say that it's their business and if they're happy and in love, good for them. Then I saw this:

He was married and had a kid when they got busted.

Read the article. He has been indicted for their relationship and they believe the marriage is a ploy so she doesn't have to testify. He was married and had a kid when they got busted.
you can't see the forest for the trees. There shouldn't be a trial or a need to testify bc she's 18 and it was two adults having sex.

There are good reasons for those educator laws, but you are right, they should be limited to a teacher having relations with a student at the same school.

Wow only in Bama

actually no, its not only in Bama, as this exact same thing happened in my HS in LA

the girls bball coach, who was probably around 40, was banging one of his players, who was underage, everyone knew it too, but this was before the social media age and the girl was from a "prominent" family in the area so the coach was just asked to take another job at another school

as soon as the girl graduated and turned 18 they got married and have been married since and have 3 kids together
