Not an original idea, I know. Just looking for thoughts and opinions

Cliffs: My brother and I have an equipment rental business in Georgia. Super tired of it. I got a CDL for the company but am mostly sales. Ready to let him buy me out

Back to hot shot. I know it’s $100k - 120 to get moving. But I feel like with all the supply chain bullshite there’s a fortune to be made relatively speaking. And I like the idea of a 3-4 day week for $2k from time to time. I’m not looking to grind my arse off. I’m fairly ok financially and have numerous investments. I may even retire in 3 to 4 years regardless

Hoping for some adult, snark free feedback. Thanks

Hope you’re not planning on going to Canada, yeah?

I may not know what I'm talking about, but an equipment rental business sounds much more lucrative than driving around the country as a freelancer.

You could make 7K per long haul load if you play your cards right.

This is coming from a logistics guy.

What kind of equipment if you are wanting to get? Like a f350 and flatbed or a semi truck?

Freelance load haulers. We have hotshots come through all the time to pick up scaffold loads.

Ask Eddie Gilbert. His finishing move. Or ask the 1 million mile tundra guy in Louisiana

I do fine. We have 6 employees outside of me my brother and his wife. I make low six figs. But the headaches, out of town travel, and incessant bitching back and forth is just dead to me. I just need a change. Chewing up interstate miles in a sweet arse dually feels like something I’d enjoy right now. If it didn’t pan out then hey, I’m selling a truck and a trailer. Might even buy a car hauler idk

Find a couple of other 1 ton truck guys you know and just broker jobs to them. Keep your day job.

This seems like hell to me, if it's over a 4 hour drive I'm flying. But I have some friends that lve being out on the road, if nothing else it may be a good break.

Any chance you could take a LOA from work without selling your piece to give it a few months to make sure it works out?

Sound advice. Just not sure how this would happen without a clean break. I feel like I’d be on the phone 5hrs a day while I drove. Idk. Working with family can be a bitch

You may as well have something to pass the time. Would just be for a few months to see of the hotshot thing is for you. I'd be giving different advice if you had been an OTR truck driver or something prior but you may want to keep the door open until you're sure.

Fair enough thanks. I’ll be 50 in 2 yrs, which was always my retirement goal. I have some projects in mind that’ll likely extend that quite a few years. Just seems like working 4 days a week and listening to podcasts/music in a loaded truck truck is far from worst case scenario. Could even let the wife tag along on a few uniqe stops to keep things interesting

I don’t know. They gotta be paying these guys out the arse with everything going on right. Got to be

50 is way too young for retirement
