Things you want to know about rentals & hotels

The housekeeping thread got me thinking .. and going through college I have worked at some cool places.. Nothing like giving away? a free stay or free upgrade to some deserving folk because I could or getting paid to drive nice cars around the city on slow days.
First though, some do's and don't.
1. Don't book rooms from travel sites. Depending on the hotel and travel site, your room may not be guaranteed by the hotel, if say on a busy weekend. Especially if you pay at the hotel. Simply ask to match; we usually did.
2. Become a rewards member, even if for a one time stay. Things like WiFi, parking etc are free. upgrades (concierge) are highly discounted if available for new members.
3. And yes if a hotel is 'sold out' there are still rentable rooms...If a guest complains the room is put on hold. (Could be as simple as a cracked mirror or dripping shower) Ask for the nature of any holds.
1. Don't? leave keys in the drop box, if possible..Arrive before they close. You are responsible for the car until they reopen. With credit card information they can charge you for erroneous crap.
If there has been previous smoking in the car or any scratches or damage BEFORE you rent make sure they list it on the contract first before you sign it.
2. Don't expect to rent any luxury and some premium cars without the company provided insurance..Your basic collision insurance won't cover.
3. Don't book at airports.. They charge a lot of crazy fees to recoup from being an airport location. Although they have some better selection of cars it may not be worth it if you're looking for a regular car.
You can usually find a neighborhood location less than 5 miles away from any airport..Just grab a cab or Uber to prevent your price from doubling.

This.
Have always found that renting away from the airport is a fraction of the normal cost. Getting there can be interesting sometimes though.
