Well your friend lied to you. Maybe he was fired because he was gay? Now that will get you paid if you can prove it.

would let them confirm I did nothing, then leave the groceries sitting there.
Bingo. I would have told the bitch have fun putting these up.

That would make me uncomfortable as a man. Just sack up, unload groceries, push cart back to cart stand, go home. Please burn your man card.

How much additional time in the store did her actions cost you? If a lot I would have asked for the store Mgr and raised hell. Otherwise no big deal.

I calling BS that’s not how the self checkouts operate. They don’t alert for suspicious activity.
They alert for any item needing an age verification, if you try to hand key in an item that it doesn’t recognize, or any item that requires them to deactivate a security device.
Good try

So I can't be accused of stealing if I'm stuffing electronics into my jacket and pants as long as I'm in the store?
Yeah. It is considered theft as soon as you conceal the item. HOWEVER, some stores have policies in place where you have to pass all points of sale before they can try to stop you. Wal-Mart used to be one of those places for sure. If policy is still the same, whoever did that to the OP (assuming it's all true) would most likely be fired and the OP could probably get paid by Wal-Mart. I've known instances of this happening.

The only time I cheat Walmart at self checkout is when I’m buying tomatoes. I always choose the cheapest tomato on the scanner to weigh them, even if it’s a type that is more expensive. Never been hassled about it.
I think Walmart has caught on to this ruse bc now they are putting barcodes on all their tomatoes.

Negative. You do not have to leave the store to be convicted of theft but it sure does help prove the case for the prosecutor which is why the store will let you go outside. But some stores will stop you inside.
Unless they catch you with dvds down your pants, good luck proving intent because you forgot to scan something before you paid for it.

I myself worked retail at kmart off johnston in lafayette in my earlier years while in college . I lasted 2 days i ended up telling some stuck up blue shirt manager to shove it . Walked out with the electronics key and never returned it. He thought he was high and mighty walking around and said something that pissed me off. Dont remember what it was . Silver lining is the kmart closed down like 6 months and he was out of a job. That made me happy

Maybe by Walmart policy, but legally that is incorrect.
