I can only speak from my experience of being a member and chapter officer in an MC for most of my adult life. It was great, I made friendships and brothers that, even though I had to hang up my cut five years ago, last to this day.

Long story short, I had a heart defect that required me to get a mechanical mitral valve. Because of having this mechanical valve in my heart, I have to take a rather substantial dose of the blood thinner Coumadin daily to prevent blood clots forming on the valve in my heart. Because of this, as my cardiologist was nice enough to point out to my wife, and I quote…

“If you so much a trip, fall, and hit your head getting off your bike, you’ll die”

When he said those word, I saw the look on my wife’s face and knew she’d be terrified anytime I was on my bike. After what she’d just been though with my illness and open heart surgeries (it was pure hell on her), I couldn’t put her though that. So, I sold my Harley and we took that money and bought a cruise vacation for us and our kids.

While I do miss riding, what I don’t miss is the expense of owning a Harley. They’re fun. But holy hell are they money pits!

That’s actually a legitimate reason. Orange Rock will still prolly suck your dick out of respect, though.

The RICO thing is real. The feds do like to frick with MCs. I remember most of the time if we were going to something like a Coalition of Clubs meeting or a rally, there would almost always be a “safety checkpoint” right outside the entrance. They’d pull over everyone on a motorcycle while flagging everyone else though. There would be local cops, state cops, and guys in black BDUs with full battle gear and M4s. They’d make us stay on our bikes while one of them came around to collect our drivers license and take them over to an unmarked van. While they had our licenses, guys would come and take a picture of each of us, front and back before they brought our licenses back and let us go on our way. This happened repeatedly over the years. Didn’t matter what state we were in, they’d do the same thing again and again
