Is ankle to knee deep not considered flooding?

As an out of towner who now has kids and grandkids and Godchildren who visit the FQ .... there is always a weird smell there.

Locals must be used to it or something.

It's mostly because drunk tourists piss in the FQ. It's not even close to the nicest part of the city.

I’m irl jealous I don’t get to live uptown. It’s very nice neighborhood and has a bunch of cool shite around. Though sometimes drinking until 4am bar down the street probably isn’t great for property values

I’m going to Houston tomorrow for the weekend and I already know it’s gonna suck arse and I will hate it. At least I can go to Katz deli late night

I think most would say the FQ didn't flood

The only weird or unusual smell I ever encountered in the French Quarter is when Torres used to clean it and had the streets smelling like lemon.

The French quarter has the most unique horse shite smell of anywhere I’ve ever been.

Winston, my friend, I’m specifically talking about Katrina.

The city didn’t flood due to rainwater. That’s a whole different situation.

The parts of the city that flooded during Katrina flooded by storm surge and levee breaks.

Nothing to due with pumps or drainage.

The French Quarter was high and dry. Matter of fact Johnny Whites never even shut down. I have video of being there around Sept 4th or 5th. A week after the storm.

Real question, how did they get alcohol in that soon/long after?

To be fair, it would make sense. Old city. People had a couple hundred years of trial and error. Not the first storm, not the last. It had been known in a catastrophic event what will be ok.

Lafittes thank you for your Sunday morning hurricanes.

I will casual exit stage right and say no more

Stale beer, piss, wafting of sewerage odors, back alley stank, and locals’ BO and swamp arse. That about sums it up!

No clue. I was able to get down there with permits that I had acquired.

I’ll have to go back and look at the exact dates. I’d imagine the local bar owners and bar neighbors sent their stuff to them.

I actually have some incredible footage of people inside and outside the bar. It’s all on a camcorder mini video tape. I’d love to share it If someone knows how to convert to digital. I have some great footage of the Quarter and the City from a few days before they opened up the city. The water had just gone down enough in some places to get around

It's almost like they knew where the high ground was in the 1700s
