I've been engaging your opinions for the last several pages actaully.

Par for the course, I guess, but being angry at me isn't going to change anything for you.
Don't think for a second I haven't noticed you shifting the conversation away from the actual topic.

But your argument is that tuition is only $10k right? What parent on this board can't afford $40k to help their kid get a STEM degree like everyone is arguing? Arguing its not very expensive is counter intuitive to the basis of this entire thread. If its that cheap, than my 45 year old arse should be able to afford it pretty easily by saving a little and then paying it off yearly.
Alternatively, if they're getting a STEM degree, it's highly likely they've got some sort of financial aid too, or they could have at a more modest college. What's the harm in graduating with $10k-$20k in debt when you're finishing in engineering?

Maybe the OP doesn't expect to live long in retirement, and made his kids the beneficiaries. There ya go, money is theirs.

If he doesn't feel threatened, why respond in that way? He was angry from the beginning. It's just words, in the end. Nothing to be angry about. I feel sorry for him, honestly.
Now you and me, Roger -- well we've sparred more than a few times over the years and I have a great deal of respect for you, intellectually. I can honestly say I've learned from encounters with you and others like you. Believe it or not, that's why I like this place.
I'm off. You guys have a great day.

Convenient timing when I just called you out for shifting to nothing but personal attacks.

Theres no way you could have been born in 82 and be this detached from reality. Unless you were in fact spoonfed and indeed have no children yet.

Yep there are doers and complainers. Doers make things happen, complainers spend infinite resources explaining why things can't be done.
The takeaway should be that it absolutely can be done, it just can't be done the way many want it to be.
I'll be the first to point out it was easier to do two decades ago, but it can still be done today.

But I should get to go to LSU and live on my own and party and have no debt when I'm done!!!!!!!

Online courses are growing the fastest at the brick-and-mortar schools, and tuition for these courses the same as a normal course. Where online learning can save big money is on general living costs for the first two years of college. That is true. But kids will still have to take traditional classes to finish their majors in the last two years.
That's optional as well, LSU Shreveport as an example offers 4 BA/BS degrees 100% online, there are a few dozen schools where you can complete a ABET accredited engineering degree entirely only. Harvard Extension school offers degrees totally online.

Absolutely. It may not be ideal, but its viable. I don't think it's wrong either way. I know parents who do pay for their kids schooling.

There is a difference between having a job and "paying your way" through college. I have argued this from the beginning. For the average college student, the idea that you can pay your way through college by working some shitty part-time job is 100% a myth that is perpetuated by older folks who did it when it was still possible.
Played in an 80's cover band and worked retail in college. Some weekends I pulled in $1000 playing clubs, frat parties, corporate events, etc...that was 20 years ago. My senior year I had 13k in the bank when I finished school and I was terrible with money.
It can still be done.

This x 1000. Theres no way you're taking 15-18 hrs/ semester plus working a job where you are making enough money to foot the bill
So don't take 18 hours, take 6 or 9, what does it matter when you are 40 years old that it took 6 years to graduate instead of 4.

You're cutting off the top of the wealth curve

When tuition was $400.00 minimum wage was $1.25

No, can't say I've heard of this exact term. I'm guessing googling it will bring me to this page of this thread and nowhere else.
Not to get involved in y'all's deal, but "Public Ivy" is a term.
Not necessarily widespread usage though. You'd likely o ly know it if you attended one or knew someone who did who used the term.

That was not the term in question. Goodness, reading is hard for some of you.

So brave!!! Maybe a cry room in your home may help. I hear those are getting popular in universities.

Yikes, you are really worked up.
How isn't public ivy the term you were talking about

If your daughter excels in those subjects
Here is the point I was making. Refusing to pay for your child's college because they don't excel in math/science is a dick move. I understand refusing to fund theatre or something, but to refuse English, history, public relations, marketing? If your child is passionate and bright, they can easily make a good career out of these majors.
